The beating heart of Saracen’s Head – the village hall – had a wonderful £560 boost thanks to a well-attended race night.
The cash will be used for the upkeep and maintenance of the hall, which is the focus of virtually all of the community activities there.
Hall supporter June Taylor said: “The village hall basically is the centre of the community.”
She said the hall hosts activities including two ladies’ groups, a variety of dancing, a flower club and carpet bowls among other things.
The hall has served the village for nearlty 40 years and it was the perfect venue for the race night, organised by Gill and Nev Ward.
Compere for the evening was Darren Peal, who also provided the projector.
The event was attended by 56 people who enjoyed a meal by Roffes Catering as well as a flutter or two on the races.
The raffle on the night raised £162 and organisers have thanked all who donated prizes and supporters who bought tickets.
