WISE owls have provided a helping hand for a pet refuge in the Deepings.
A quiz held with shoppers at the Anglia Co-operative foodstore in Market Deeping raised £171 for the Exotic Pet Refuge – and staff are planning more fundraisers for the Deeping St James-based refuge.
Store manager Darren Hammond and colleague Linsey Skate presented a cheque to refuge founder Pam Mansfield, who said: “This means an awful lot to us and it’s wonderful that the store and its staff are going to continue fundraising for us.
“It costs about £1,000 a week to run the refuge and most of our funding comes from donations.”
The refuge has about 300 animals at any one time.
Pam added: “Some of the animals have come from disbanded zoos but some have come from people who had them as pets and can’t cope with them any more.”
Mr Hammond said: “The refuge supported our fun day and brought along animals, so we wanted to say thanks.
The refuge is holding a fundraising open day on Sunday, October 7.
