Thinking caps were donned on Tuesday evening as 17 teams did battle in the annual Two Lips quiz in Spalding.
The event – organised by the Spalding Guardian and Lincolnshire Free Press – returned after a one-year absence and was a great evening.
A whopping £685.50 was raised for the Two Lips Appeal – backed every year by the Guardian – which this year is supporting PHAB, the NSPCC and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The evening, at St Norbert’s Church Hall in Spalding, consisted of two quiz rounds with the highlight for many being the fish and chips from Sheddy’s at the interval!
Winners were The Quads team of Quadring couples Paul and Lorraine McDermott and Mel and Carol Mitchinson.
A raffle raised £172 towards the total, with prizes donated by Flowers n Things, Gurkha Oven, Julie and Andrew Hannam, Paul and Lorraine McDermott, Spalding Lifestyle, Veena Cornish Photography, Wyeplants and Worldwide Fruit.
A souvenir miniature cricket bat and autograph book, both signed by England international Matt Prior during his visit to Spalding Grammar School, and donated by D and M Sports of Spalding, went for £30.
Guardian editor Jeremy Ransome said: “It was a terrific night and we will definitely be putting the event on again next year. I’d like to thank everyone who came, who donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and contributed in any way.
“The hall staff were superb and the chips as tasty as ever. And the atmosphere during the whole evening could not have been better.”
He gave special thanks to daughter Joanna, who was up and down the hall all evening collecting quiz sheets.
