Quadring rain man Graham Crosby’s records show that the wettest year of the last 31 years – in his neck of the woods at least – was 2004.

In that year there was just over 32in of rainfall, followed by 2000 when there was just under 32in, and then 2002 and 2007 when there was just over 30in.

The driest year was 2011, at just over 16½in, with 1990 only very slightly wetter. The next two driest years were 1996, at slightly over 17in of rain, and 1991, which had only slightly more.

Graham’s figures reveal an average rainfall for the past 31 years of 24½in.

Graham’s son-in-law Richard Howarth says: “Like all farmers, Graham takes a passionate interest in the weather.

“Having just completed the 2013 numbers, representing 31 consecutive years of record-keeping, and with all the problems with rainfall elsewhere in the country, I thought you might be interested in the figures.”
