Regular column by Jan Whitbourn of Tulip Radio.
Recently we had the opportunity of speaking to Coun Gary Taylor who has been representing Spalding Castle for 12 years.
He previously declared his intention to keep up pressure on large businesses and utility companies to maintain their properties in the Spalding area. With regards to Chatterton water tower in Holland Market, Anglian Water, despite being a hugely profitable company, say they have scheduled work to this landmark building in around five years’ time. We all agreed they ought to readdress this time frame as the tower is becoming increasingly scruffy and gives the wrong impression of Spalding. Gary is to maintain pressure on the company to provide a clean, repainted water tower sooner rather than later.
We also talked of the difficulties locals have, especially at weekends, in using the Winsover Road rail crossing during the current engineering works. He felt, now the signal box has been demolished, there is a real case for Network Rail to consider a pedestrian footbridge across the railway.
Gary is plainly very keen to see Spalding presented in as good a light as possible for our numerous visitors and is one of those people who is happy to ‘get his hands dirty’ to achieve that goal.
