PEOPLE in Sutton St James pulled out the stops for two good causes over the Bank Holiday weekend.
St James’ Parish Church was open from Friday to Monday for its annual flower festival and generous visitors dug deep by giving donations to help towards the upkeep of the building. With donations and sales from refreshments and stalls the organisers raised a little over £1,400.
The theme was ‘Living in the Countryside’. There were 12 arrangements – including a floral Maypole outside from the village school – and lots of pedestal arrangements.
Churchwarden Sally Clifton said: “Everyone said it was beautiful and our best yet. They loved the children’s display.”
On Monday 30 households in the village took part in a drive sale and £300 was raised for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
Organiser Tina McNeil said residents love selling from their drives rather than going to car boots because it means they can carry on with their normal lives and even cook lunch between visitors.
Tina plans to hold another sale in September.
