A site off Carrington Drove, Crowland, could become the base for a new Fenland Tourism Centre as well as the new home for Crowland Caravans and Camping.

Matthew Alcock, of Ruthkay Ltd, has resubmitted a planning application to develop the area which is now set up as a poultry unit.

A statement to the planning authority, South Holland District Council, says: “The proposal would not only provide on-site interest and activity, but it would link to the existing infrastructure to allow healthy activities to be enjoyed, including walking, cycling, horse-riding, fishing, gardening and a fitness circuit etc, all of which will promote a healthier and more enriching lifestyle.”

Crowland Caravans and Camping is currently based at Wyvale Garden Centre in Postland Road.

The planning statement says the caravan and camping company’s existence on that site is becoming “unsatisfactory” for many business reasons, including poor access and lack of control over opening times. The new plan involves creating a private access road off the A16.
