Gousto's possibility of redundancies in Spalding met with disappointment
A senior district councillor has reacted with disappointment after a major employer announced the possibility of redundancies.
Earlier this week, recipe kit box supplier Gousto warned it may have to cut roles at its site in Camel Gate, Spalding due to changes to its operations.
South Holland District Council’s deputy leader Coun Nick Worth, who is portfolio holder for people, places and economy, was unhappy to learn of Gousto’s announcement.
He said: “I am very disappointed if that is what Gousto are doing.
“Those jobs are quite technical and they were a big provider of highly skilled jobs which I am keen to push.
“I appreciate that companies have to remodel sometimes and, with the economy as it is, businesses will look at the workforce and see what needs to be done but that is disappointing.
“At the end of the day, they’ve made that decision now and we will help to find jobs wherever we can for those who are losing their roles through our economic development work with the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions).”
