CABINET CALL: By Coun Anthony Casson
This is my first newspaper column after being asked to take on a cabinet role following the elections in May.
It is a real privilege to be part of the council’s cabinet and I’m looking forward to the many challenges ahead.
I will aim to make these columns useful, informative and occasionally entertaining, while giving you an insight into my role and what it entails.
Although I’m new to the cabinet, I have been a South Holland district councillor for eight years and was previously a junior cabinet portfolio holder.
I’m well aware of the issues affecting local people and am determined to work hard to ensure that our residents get the best deals.
My cabinet responsibilities include overseeing our commercial and industrial assets. I’m also tasked with looking after the district’s parks, open spaces and car parks.
As you can see, this is quite a wide-ranging brief, which includes facilities that you will use on a daily basis.
I can assure you that I will be working hard to make sure we continue to manage these services effectively.
As a councillor, a big part of my role is getting out into the local community to meet with people and visit the many attractions and events that our district has to offer.
On Saturday, I will be attending the Pride of South Holland Awards at the South Holland Centre in Spalding.
The awards, which are being held for the first time, recognise people in our communities who go the extra distance to help others and I’m thoroughly looking forward to it.
There are many people in the district who do wonderful work which sometimes goes unnoticed.
The awards are an excellent opportunity to showcase their achievements and I’m sure it will be fantastic occasion for everyone involved.
My next column is not due until September, so all that remains for me to say is that I hope you all have a great summer.
