Disabled people in South Holland who wish to be considered for selection as a candidate for an election, or are standing for election, can access a special fund.
The Access to Elected Office for Disabled People Fund was set up in 2012 and runs until March. It offers individual grants of between £250 and, exceptionally, up to £40,000.
Types of costs most commonly supported fall in to four broad categories:
l disability related support (such as a support worker to assist a candidate).
l disability related technology and equipment (such as assistive tech lick screen readers).
l communication (such as a BSL interpreter for a deaf candidate).
l transport (such as if a disabled candidate campaigning in a highly urban area needs taxis rather than public transport ). To apply visit http://www.access-to-elected-office-fund.org.uk/
