Police rescued a swan found wandering in the middle of the A151 road at Twenty after it was hit by a car.
PC Tim Farmer (pictured) couldn’t see any injuries, apart from “a few dishevelled feathers”, but took the bird to Bourne Police Station, where it was collected by animal welfare charity the RSPCA.
Following a check-up at a vet’s, the bird was taken to the RSPCA East Winch Wildlife Centre.
An RSPCA spokesman said: “Staff at the centre are happy that the bird is putting on weight, is swimming and appears to be recovering well.”
The mute swan was found at 8.30pm on Saturday.
