Play plan may hit wildlife

PLANS for play in Falklands estate, Sutton Bridge, sparked concern about a threat to nature.

Tempers flared at Sutton Bridge Parish Council when the project was aired in March with elderly residents objecting to youngsters playing at the end of their gardens.

Former community centre chairman Gary Croxford – who backed the plan then – is now a parish councillor and would still like part of a site known as Peter’s Piece or Tom’s Wood mown so children can play.

He said youngsters play football in the road and it is only a matter of time before a child is injured.

A member of the public said any scheme would “destroy nature” as wild orchids and trees with preservation orders grow on the site. The council agreed to investigate play plans and consult residents before anything is done.
