Avast, me hearties, you won’t find any scurvy aboard the good ship William Stukeley Primary School in Holbeach.
Children in Key Stage 1 and Foundation Stage discovered the cure for scurvy during a Pirate and Mermaid Day. During the day, youngsters in fancy dress took part in team building games of steal the treasure, pass the rum, fold the sails and cross the river.
After making up their own grog recipe as a scurvy cure, they then made fruit juice grog which school captains (adults) were encouraged to taste. Pupils also explored chemical reactions while cleaning treasure.
