Hero pilot's twins visit Spalding plane crash site
Twin daughters of a hero pilot who sacrificed his life to save an unimaginable tragedy in Spalding have visited the spot where his Meteor VIII jet crashed more than 60 years ago.
Pilot Officer George Furniss (29) guided his stricken aircraft over the built up area of the town so that it would crash into a field near the Vernatts Drain.
But loss of altitude meant the experienced pilot couldn't save himself and his parachute didn't open when he baled out.
