Gedney Church End Primary School stage Strictly-themed nativity at parish church

The Christmas story was brought right up to date by Gedney Church End Primary School with the help of a popular TV show.

Reception, Year 1 and 2 pupils were challenged to perform a nativity musical with a "twist", based on BBC TV's Strictly Come Dancing competition, at St Mary Magdalene Church.

Parents, grandparents and staff were bursting with pride as the children sang and danced in suitably seasonal costumes for the production.

Reception/Year 1 teacher Louise Wright, who co-directed the musical alongside early years' teaching assistant Jayne Waters, said: "It was a traditional nativity story, but with a twist based on Strictly Come Dancing.

"There were 36 children involved who danced and sang songs, but not the ones you would find in a traditional nativity musical.

"We rehearsed it over a couple of weeks and the staff loved it, the parents loved it and the children from Lutton St Nicholas Primary School came over to watch it loved it too.

"The parents thought it was brilliant and they liked the way that the little ones were engaged in what was a full church."
