A former head teacher and ex pupils have been re-living the day that Peter Andre appeared in concert at Gleed Girls' School.

It was 22 years ago that an agency called the Spalding school and asked if they were interested in Andre performing a concert in March '96.

Ex head teacher Mary Hurst , formerly Miss Moorhouse, introduced Andre and his fellow musicians to the lucky few in the hall.

"I remember him kneeling to kiss my hand," said Mary. "It amused the girls, it really did, and it amused me as well."

Mary's reminisences were sparked by news that Peter will switch on the Christmas lights at Springfields on October 25.

Mary (76) hopes to attend and says she's kept an eye on Peter's career .

Many pupils - and Mary herself - were disappointed that not everyone could see him at the school concert.

Mary explained fire regulations restricted the numbers and those inside the hall had to remain seated.

"That was a bit difficult to do when they were wanting to express their appreciation," she said.

Mary recalls the concert was in a morning, so pupils could come down from the high over lunch, and says Peter and his band were "very good".

More than 60 readers shared their memories on our Facebook, including Samantha Bell, who says: "Was the highlight of all the years at school lol ... just remember him dancing on the piano and Miss Moorhouse not being impressed at all."

Non concert goer Zoe Cribben found a way to meet the heart-throb: "I hung out of Miss Smith's RE window and he kissed and shook my hand. *faint*"

Jane Wilkinson recalled: "I remember everyone at the High School being extremely miffed."

Another new shop is about to open at Springfields, Joules, which is great news coming quickly after the addition of White Stuff.
