A new pet therapy dog is helping to boost the wellbeing of residents in a Deeping St James care home.

People in Braeburn Lodge have been able to hark back to their days at pet owners by making friends and interacting with Alfie.

Samantha McCall, activities coordinator at the Braeburn Road home, said: “The health and wellbeing of our residents is hugely important and pet therapy is just one of the ways in which we are proactively supporting them.

“The visit from Alfie was extremely well received, and it was brilliant to see so many residents enjoying the experience.”

The care home says that interacting with dogs - even for short periods - has been shown to improve mental health, reduce blood pressure, alleviate feelings of loneliness, unlock memories and even reduce chronic pain.
