A 78-year-old woman driver from Long Sutton was killed in a crash on the A17 yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

Norfolk Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which involved the pensioner’s silver Mercedes and a black BMW.

The elderly woman, who has not yet been named, was confirmed dead at the scene.

The man driving the BMW escaped with minor injuries.

Police say the accident happened at Walpole Cross Keys at the A17 junction with Sutton Road at about 1.20pm.

The A17 was closed for more than five hours while emergency services dealt with the accident and Lincolnshire Police assisted with the closure.

• Norfolk Police are asking witnesses who saw the crash – or witnessed the manner of driving before the accident – to contact their Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
