Pauline was founder member of village hall committee

Mrs Pauline Barker, of Backgate, Cowbit, Spalding, died in Tanglewood Cedar Falls Care Home, Spalding on May 31. She was 79.

Mrs Barker was born in Spalding Common and attended Goodfellows Primary School and the Gleed School for Girls.

She worked in horticulture and for many years worked at Hortico. She was also self-employed, growing and selling flowering plants.

Pauline was fully involved in the Cowbit community, including being a founder member of the Village Hall Committee and the Playing Field Committee and founder and long-term chairman of Cowbit Ladies Club.

She was the widow of Tom Barker, who was for many years the parish and district councillor for Cowbit. Pauline supported Tom in this work including being the Chairman’s Lady for South Holland District Council in the 1980s.

She leaves daughters Sally Anne Waltham and Lynne Tomlinson-Smith.

A funeral service took place at St Mary’s Church, Cowbit, and the funeral director was Lincolnshire Co-Op.
