Holbeach Bank and Saracen's Head launch into the festive season with a big party

Over 60s from Holbeach Bank and Saracen's Head enjoyed their traditional Christmas party on Saturday night.

More than 50 guests were treated to a free, three-course meal, thanks to year-round fundraising by a hard working committee and a £500 donation from the Holbeach charity shop, Chosen.

Gill Ward, who chairs the committee, says the event was founded more than 40 years ago and it remains as popular as ever.

She said: "Everybody who came said how much they enjoyed the evening and the meal."

The meal was provided by Roffes Catering, from Sutton St James, and there was entertainment from singer Roger Williams.

It's the first year Gill has been in the hot seat as June Taylor stepped down last year.

Gill said: "She didn't want it to fold - she wanted the committee to carry on with it."

Gill believes the party organised by the Over 60s Committee for Holbeach Bank and Saracen's Head has been going strong for the last 43 or 44 years.

But she says fundraising gets harder as prices go up and the committee want to extend special thanks to Chosen for their wonderful donation.

The committee have a date for their first fundraising night in the diary for the 2020 Christmas party, a music event with singer Phil Wiggins on March 7.

Holbeach enjoyed a wonderful first on Friday night with a spectacular lantern parade.
