Angel was busy looking for a Christmas card for the parents in a card shop in Spalding and was surprised by the amount of choice now on offer.
No longer can you just get a generic card saying “Merry Christmas” - you can now choose from “Happy Christmas Mum, Happy Christmas Dad, Happy Christmas Mum and Dad, Happy Christmas to the One I Love”, and no end of other options.
Has Christmas finally gone a commercial step too far?
• Aren’t children adorable! In the chill of Spalding Market Place on Tuesday, Angel chuckled when she overheard one youngster ask her parents if she could have an ice cream. Angel guesses the answer was “No”.
• Angel has a very simple request to motorists - please make sure your lights work! Driving around Lincolnshire, she can’t help but notice how many motorists appear to have just one light working. Only the other day, a van came up behind her but looked more like a motorbike due to the fact not all of the lights were working. Please make sure you are seen!
• Angel has been listening to Spaldonians who were disappointed that there was no official Christmas lights switch-on this year. Then we have the Christmas tree in Hall Place which has a broken top and, on top of that, no tulip lights along the riverbank. Thank goodness then for people like Rotarians and Lions who understand the magic of Christmas and go out of their way to delight young and old with their Santa sleighs. Rotarians played Polish and English Christmas tunes from their sleigh on Tuesday to mark St Nicolas Day, while a Polish Santa nearby handed gifts to English and Polish children alike. That’s the true spirit of Christmas.
