Jingle bells, jingle bells – the Lions’ Santa is on his way.
He’s been spotted on his bike racing through town to prepare the sleigh for the start of his annual fundraising tour of the district.
The Lions’ Santa will be arriving in Donington on Monday - the start of the tour that lasts up to Monday, December 22.
Santa and his helpers will tour streets in towns and villages across the district, knocking on doors as well as greeting families in streets to spread the cheer and hand out chocolates. Spalding Lions have been touring the district on the run-up to Christmas for more than 12 years, raising money for local good causes. Jean Biggadike, vice-president, said: “Last year we raised more than £2,000. It’s a magical time of the year for us.
“Although it is a fundraising expedition, we make the children very much a part of it – it’s about sending out the message to villages in the area that we care about you.
“This is the third year we have had the snow machine, which makes it very special when we arrive. Then we knock on doors visiting families and handing out chocolates as well as meeting them in the streets.
“We also invite local charities to come along and fundraise with us.”
As well as touring, Santa will visit local supermarkets on the run-up to Christmas and make an appearance with an organ playing festive tunes. Lions’ members also plan to go carol singing around sheltered housing.
