LETTER: Marina consent will only be granted if flood defences are not affected

Have your say

You recently ran an article about the proposed Sutton Bridge marina and potential impacts on local flood defences.

The flood defences on the tidal River Nene at Sutton Bridge are vitally important to reduce the risk of tidal flooding in this area.

I can therefore understand that some of your readers have concerns that works proposed as part of the proposed marina could reduce the effectiveness of the town’s tidal defences.

We have powers to ensure that any proposed works do not adversely affect flood defences.

We are working closely with the developers of the marina and I would like to reassure the community that we will only grant consent if we are sure that the proposals will not affect the good standard of flood defence provided in this area.

I am confident that through our discussions with the developer, appropriate plans can be submitted that will be acceptable to us.

We have had discussions with local councillors to explain our position and we fully recognise the local importance of this proposal in providing an economic boost to the town.
