LETTER: Coalition cannot be accountable

Have your say

Why is it that some people still don’t understand the implications of having a coalition government?

The Government has not reneged on any manifesto promises as it didn’t produce a manifesto.

The Conservatives did, as did the Lib-Dems, but any promises made by either of these parties prior to the coalition being formed were up for grabs as part of the negotiation process.

For example, Clegg lost out on tuition fees and Cameron lost out on an EU membership referendum.

So holding an individual party accountable for not delivering on one of its promises is unjust.

Very simply, a coalition government doesn’t have a mandate so cannot be held accountable. Ouch!
