Spalding to have Costa drive-thru on A16 site where a KFC is due to be built
There are plans for a Costa drive-thru on a site next to the A16 where consent has already been given for a KFC.
The development could create the equivalent of 20 full-time jobs if given the go-ahead by South Holland District Council.
The land sits at the front of the Spalding Bakery site - diagonally opposite McDonald’s.
The SME Corporation Ltd was given planning consent bythe district council in January for the KFC, which is likely to create 30 jobs.
The same company is seeking consent for the Costa.
Spalding has a Costa in Market Place and at the Springfields Retail Outlet.
If given consent, the new Costa will be one of a number of big brand coffee shops popping up at sites along the A16.
The latest of those to open is a Starbucks at the new Sutterton Truck Port.
The SME application for the Costa seeks consent for a single storey drive-thru with associated car parking, cycle parking and landscaping.
It will be sited in the area where there is currently a large mound - the statue that topped the mound has already been removed.
Information from the applicants supplied to the council says: “Within the centre of the site there is a temporary earth mound which is the current podium of a statue erected by the previous owners, the food processing factory.
“The statue will be removed and the mound reduced and incorporated in the reconfiguring of the site for the drive-thru coffee shop.”
SME also says: “Approximately 50 per cent of the site is being proposed for the new drive-thru coffee shop with the option of developing the remaining portion of the site at a later date.”
* The Spalding Guardian contacted the applicant’s agent seeking information - including the likely start and completion dates for the KFC - but no information was received at the time of going to press.
