Shoppers had that sinking feeling when a traction unit carrying a huge flat-bottomed barge got stuck in North Street, Bourne.
Three barges in convoy and the leading unit came to a halt and damaged the metal signboard of Chemist C D Ross.
The sign had to be removed to allow the convoy through.
Matters were made worse with it being market day and traders’ stalls packing the nearby Market Place.
Traffic was held up for more than an hour.
