CAMPAIGNERS have failed to persuade councillors to reverse their decision for selecting Deeping St Nicholas as their preferred site for a rail freight hub.
South Holland District Council voted 25 votes to two to ignore the plea put forward in a petition signed by 850 people.
Jocelyn Kedzlie, from RAIL (Rally Against Industrialisation of our Landscape), addressed the full council last night to put her case forward.
However, Coun Howard Johnson, executive member for economic development, told her: “We must secure all existing businesses here. Without business, there are no jobs, without jobs people will be living on the breadline.”
He added: “South Holland District Council makes no apologies for this. It’s been completely transparent.”
