Health bosses say they are planning appropriate services for the increase in house building in South Holland.

Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board director Sarah-Jane Mills says the health service is facing a number of challenges locally and patients have raised concerns about the lack of infrastructure.

Developers are planning hundreds of homes in Pinchbeck, close to where the Spalding GP surgery is based, in the Johnson Hospital.

Ms Mills said: “I have spoken to people in the Spalding area about the significant housing development and there is concern from people in terms of whether the infrastructure is there to meet the needs of that population going forward.

“I can assure you we are working with colleagues on the district council to make sure that we can plan for that and we can have the appropriate services in place going forward.”

She said the other challenges faced by the health service locally and nationally is the 20% increase in demand since the pandemic.

Ms Mills also said that there are many ways in which people can now access the health service such as online and telephone consultantions.

With the staff shortages faced by the health service, she has also highlighted the ways the NHS is looking to alleviate this.

She said: “We have challenges in terms of GPs and doctors and we need to make sure that the skills are best used to meet the patients that really need their support.

“We are extending that general practice workforce to include all those different professions.”

She said that the people are comfortable speaking to a GP when other professions may be best for their condition.

Ms Mills said: “GPs will be able to reconnect and have that personal relationship.”
