Training tip: Help your dog get through Christmas

The Christmas holidays are finally upon us and we are all getting ready for the festivities that this time of year brings.

For most dogs Christmas is fun filled with extra family time, walks, new toys and tasty treats but for others it can be a little overwhelming.

Homes are busy with new guests, both human and dogs; children are unwrapping presents and playing with new toys.

Many dogs find this hustle and bustle unsettling so to ease them into the festive spirit make sure your dog has a safe space to go away from visitors so they can relax – to make this place enjoyable have their favourite toys and treats there waiting.

Whilst some dogs want to take themselves into a quiet spot, others are just too eager to join in and enjoy hovering round the dinner table for fallen scraps.

During mealtimes, to stop your dog from jumping up for food or bothering the guests, why not prepare them a tasty Kong or food puzzle toy of their own that they can eat at the same time – Kongs or other similar toys are great as they take your dog a little longer to figure out and eat.

Check with your vet if you are unsure if any food items that you need to be careful of given your dog.

Merry Christmas to all from the Jerry Green Team!
