Much interest has already been shown in a new war memorial for Spalding.
The new memorial will be in the Peace Garden at Ayscoughfee Hall and a campaign to raise around £50,000 has already begun.
The new structure will be a memorial to those who lost their lives in World War Two and subsequent conflicts.
Dates 1914-1918 and 1939-45 already feature on a memorial stone that stands in front of the renowned, grade 1 listed Sir Edwin Lutyens memorial to Spalding’s World War One dead in Ayscoughfee Gardens.
However, the names of those who died in World War Two and subsequent conflicts are either scattered around town on memorials at various parish churches – or not recorded at all.
All names currently on memorials in churches within Spalding and all names subsequently found that are not listed anywhere will appear on the new Spalding memorial, provided they meet the criteria of having been born or lived in the town.
Please note, a previous article which said that names already on other memorials in town would not feature on the new one was incorrect.
