We are looking for a new Queen to fill the shoes of South Holland’s current ambassador Amy Cook.

And the first duty the newly-elected Tulip Queen will perform is to switch on Spalding’s Christmas lights – just hours after being picked.

The role of Tulip Queen is an exciting position for a young lady who will represent South Holland.

She will be a VIP when visiting many different businesses and events in the area, such as the People’s Parade, and the Christmas Lights Switch On, which will be her first appointment under her new title.

Jan Whitbourn, from organisers Tulip Radio, said: “South Holland needs an ambassador and after the Flower Parade stopped and we no longer had a Flower Queen, we felt last year we still needed someone to represent us.

“This lady will be an ambassador for Spalding and South Holland, which is a really important job.

“Most importantly, this is not a beauty competition. We are looking more at personality, merit and knowledge of the area.”

The ladies who apply for the role will be asked to come smartly dressed to the Sheep Market on the day of the Spalding Christmas Light Switch On – Saturday, November 14 – where they will be interviewed by a small panel of judges before the winner is announced.

The new Tulip Queen will be whisked away to Fancy Frox to be put in a new dress, and then to Hills Department store to have her make-up done – she will then officially switch on the lights with Santa.

For an entry form, visit Tulip Radio in The Crescent, Spalding. Entrants must be aged over 16.
