Donington traders win change of heart on Market Place parking
Traders have won the day on time-limited parking in Donington, with councillors extending waits from three to four hours.
It will be four hour waits in the main body of the Market Place car park while a handful of spaces beside a wall, near the Seng House, will be restricted to 30 minutes.
Councillors heard on Thursday it will take three months for the restrictions to start.
Traders were unhappy with an initial proposal for three-hour waits, some arguing it gave too little time for hairdresser customers to have their hair coloured.
The council asked traders to come back with their own proposals, with chairman Coun Arthur Baldwin hoping for a compromise that would be "satisfactory to all".
Parking will remain free but time-limits have come in because councillors want to free up spaces for shoppers and deter people from leaving their cars all day.
A private company will "police" the restrictions, issuing warning notices and fines to offenders.
