A new street cleaning machine is hoped to help put the pride back in South Holland.

The machine, which could be in operation by the end of the month, will target cigarette butts and chewing gum.

A spokesman for South Holland District Council said: “We are leasing a new street cleaning machine as part of our Pride in South Holland campaign to keep the district clean.

“The vacuuming machine will be in operation very soon and it will be used to clean up cigarette butts and other related litter from areas across the district.

“The machine is particularly effective because it can reach into places where other cleaning equipment cannot be used.

“We will make a further announcement to mark the launch of the machine in the coming weeks.”
