Two Long Sutton councillors have delivered their own version of a golden goal to a village football club.
South Holland District councillors Laura Eldridge and Jack Tyrrell used their designated ward budgets to buy two new goals for Tydd St Mary Football Club.
The goalposts, which cost just over £700, have ensured that the club’s Under 13s side can continue playing competitive matches this season.
Manager of the Under 13s team Joe Johnson said: “The football club is extremely grateful for the time and effort given by Jack and Laura.
“Over the past year the club has expanded its number of teams dramatically and we now cater for five to 13-year-olds alongside out female and male senior sides.
“Jack and Laura’s hard work and extreme generosity has allowed us to get the new goals and also provided sponsorship to our men’s reserve side.
“Without their effort we would have been seriously stuck, so we would like to say a massive thanks for what they have done for us and the local community.”
All South Holland councillors have designated ward budgets they use to support worthy causes in the district.
