New Covid test site opening in South Holland
A new site is due to open in South Holland this weekend in a bid to encourage people in the district to take regular Covid tests.
Everyone in the country is being offered two lateral flow tests a week as part of the Government’s plan to prevent further virus outbreaks and encourage a gradual return to normal life.
From Saturday, a new asymptomatic testing site will be distributing packs to people in South Holland.
The location of the site is still under wraps but should be announced tomorrow.
There have already been asymptomatic testing sites set up in Boston, Gainsborough, Grantham, Horncastle, Lincoln, Louth, Skegness, Sleaford and Trusthorpe – but not one in South Holland until now.
As well as this new site, people will be able to order tests online and pick them up from some pharmacies – although it’s not yet known which of these will offer them.
People who have symptoms or who have a negative lateral flow test could still be sent for a ‘gold standard’ PCR Covid test at the mobile unit at the Fun Farm in Weston. This site is still set to be in operation until at least April 18.
The Covid case rate in South Holland is now starting to come down –but the district still suffers from one of the UK’s highest levels.
At time of press there had been 76 cases confirmed in the last seven days in South Holland. That’s down 26.9% on the previous week.
The case rate in the district is 101 per 100,000 people – down from 122.1 a week earlier.
However, that’s still the 11th highest figure for any area in the country – and more than double the national rate of 41.4.
