A mum is appealing for the public’s help in getting a make-over for a village park.

Melissa Barton (29) is hoping the public will get behind her bid to win a share of the Mutual Gain cash to transform the play area near the Curlew Centre in Sutton Bridge.

Lincolnshire Police has provided £15,000 to fund improvements in the village following the Building Better Bridges World Cafe community conversation held last year.

People in the village will be able to vote on Saturday during an event in the Curlew Centre to decide how this cash could be spent.

Presentations will be given by The Curlew Community Centre, Project Play, Renovation of “The Big Park” Sutton Bridge, Sutton Bridge Parish Council, Sutton Bridge Players (Amateur Dramatic Group) and Sutton Bridge Youth Centre.

Miss Barton has applied for £10,000 to renovate the park and says that some families are travelling to Wisbech and Terrington St Clement to use facilities there.

She said: “It has not been updated in a long time and I feel that it is going to benefit the village.

“I think that the children deserve it after the last two years. They deserve to have a safe, clean and exciting place to play.

“We need to spruce it up and need something for the village.”

There are pictures of Miss Barton playing on one of the slides in the park - which are now used by her two children.

The equipment is also a distance away from the Curlew Centre so there are also hopes that this could be brought closer in order to prevent anti-social behaviour.

There is no equipment at the park which is suitable for toddlers.

People over the age of 13 will be able to go along to the Curlew Centre on Saturday from 11am to 1pm to cast their vote.
