Call to cut single-use plastic and set up public water fountains

Sir John Hayes MP is backing efforts to cut the amount of plastic waste thrown away in South Holland and the Deepings.

The former Energy and Climate Change Minister, during David Cameron's period as Prime Minister, has offered his support to a campaign aimed at reducing the amounts of single-use plastics across the area.

Carrier bags, straws, food packaging, soft drinks and water bottles are just some of the items that contribute to the estimated 1.53million tonnes of plastic waste disposed of in the UK, according to a House of Commons report published last month.
