South Holland and the Deepings MP Sir John Hayes looks forward to 'new horizon' of UK outside the EU in 2019
Recently knighted MP Sir John Hayes has spoken of a "new horizon" ahead for his constituents when the UK leaves the European Union (EU) next year.
In his new year's message released less than 100 days before Brexit, Sir John wished his South Holland and the Deepings' constituents "joy and solace" during 2019.
Sir John, MP for South Holland and the Deepings since 1997, was awarded a knighthood by Prime Minister Theresa May in November, despite opposing her Brexit agreement which faces a parliamentary vote in two weeks' times.
The knighthood was awarded in recognition of the variety of posts held by Sir John within the Conservative Party and government over the last two decades, including ministerial roles at the Cabinet Office, Home Office and Department of Transport.
Sir John said: "Each new year brings new challenges and new hopes to each of us and for all of us.
"I hope that in meeting those challenges, all of my constituents will find joy and solace with family and friends.
"As a country where we look forward to a new horizon outside of the European Union in 2019, let us rediscover the best of Britain and re-energise our nation for all of its people."
