With award-season on the horizon the bookies’ favourite for the top awards at both the Oscars and the Golden Globes is the first of two highly-acclaimed films to go head-to-head from New Year’s Day.

Former Batman Michael Keaton – who has been nominated for Best Actor (in Musical or Comedy) at the Globes – plays a washed-up former star who once played an iconic superhero, in this comedy-drama from the director of Babel and 21 Grams.

But he must overcome his ego and family troubles as he looks to reclaim his past glory by starring in a new Broadway play, in this highly-acclaimed film that co-stars Emma Stone and Edward Norton – who have also both garnered supporting actor Globe nods – with King Kong’s Naomi Watts and The Hangover’s Zach Galifianakis rounding off an impressive cast.
