FURTHER DELAYS have hit the opening of a community centre at the heart of Bourne’s biggest housing development.
Kier Homes has confirmed that the £750,000 project in Elsea Park will be finished by late autumn, after previously stating April and July.
The building is being constructed as part of legal agreement linked to planning permission and was delayed originally becuase of power supply issues, bad weather and the need for more tree surveys.
Elsea Park Community Trust chairman Angela Bailey was originally disappointed with the delay but is remaining positive. She said: “The site is growing quite rapidly and I think it is going to be a real asset. It will put a heart to what is becoming a small village.
“It’s getting to the point where they are able to pick floor coverings and wall finishes. It’s starting to feel real.”
Daniel Browne, residental land director of Kier said the firm is aiming to hand it over to the trust by November.
He added: “Elsea Park Community Centre is currently in the midst of the construction stage with the ground slab and steel portal frame now in place.”
He also said that Kier will undertake work on the long awaited Linear Park after the completition of the community centre.
