Spalding area's John Ward on the problems with the 'halfway house' of weights and measures
The past few weeks - or months - have been educational in many respects as I found out that a lot of people, even those (it’s rumoured) intelligent-looking ones, don’t seem to grasp what two metres distance is.
Due to assorted restrictions that have been prevailing this year, the two metre ‘safety zone’ has been in operation. But some people don’t seem to have much idea as to exactly how long this distance is.
To a point this ‘half way house’ method we have adopted in weights and measures can be confusing. You buy beer, lager etc, by the pint while petrol and diesel, which look basically about the same in colour, are sold in litres.
