FIREFIGHTERS of the future were put through their paces and given an insight on a career at Spalding Fire Station at a special event.
About 14 youngsters aged between eight and 14 were shown the basics of firefighting and how to stay safe from the dangers of fire itself at the fire station’s summer activity day.
Kids’ Firefighting Day was organised by fire safety officers Annie Best and Joanne Hussey and included teamwork exercises, fire safety video, fire fighting games and a tour round a fire engine.
Annie said: “The event has been running for the past four years wherever there is a fire station in South Holland.
“The aim is to give young people something educational to do during the summer holidays and encourage them not to play with fire.
“The day itself was hard work but we update the programme every year and we love doing it.”
