Spalding market traders present retirement gift to officer




Market traders have said farewell to a council officer who has decided to retire after more than two decades.

Jon Clarke has been one of the area’s market officers for 21 years, looking after the stalls in Spalding.

Market traders in Spalding clubbed together to recognise Mr Clarke’s service and presented him with a bottle of brandy and a voucher.

Chairman of the Market Traders Association Dave Burgess has thanked Mr Clarke.

He said: “We wanted to recognise his long service.

“He always worked well with me and we had a good relationship.”

Vice-chairman Julie Newman also paid tribute. She said: “He will be missed after giving 21 years to the markets.

“Jon has given a lot of service to the markets.

“He is a lovely chap and will be greatly missed.”

Mr Clarke had been employed by South Holland District Council for 21 years.

He had worked as one of three men who were responsible for looking after the markets, car parking monitoring and flytipping until 2017.

He then became the markets, bus station-and car parks inspector.
