Market Deeping’s popular Victorian Market came within a whisker of being called off on Sunday morning.
Mayor Reg Howard said: “It went very well indeed but it was a near disaster because of the weather.”
High winds and heavy rain hampered the setting up of the stalls and Coun Howard did a straw poll to ask stall holders whether the event should go on or be called off.
The vote was 50-50 so the market went ahead – and the weather did an about change.
Crowds turned out to support the market and attractions included fun fair rides, a town crier competition for children and street entertainment.
The event was organised by Market Deeping Town Council’s deputy clerk, Dawn Jarvis.
