A Spalding man went into the house of his former partner and assaulted her and her new partner when he found them asleep on a sofa, a court heard.

Blake Dean (20), of Green Lane, had admitted charges of assaulting his former girlfriend and her new partner and two counts of sending menacing and threatening messages last month.

He appeared at Boston Magistrates Court today (Tuesday) for sentencing following a report from the Probation Service.

At the original hearing, it was said that the man had been staying at the woman's home on the night of June 4/5 when Dean burst into the house, through the back door, shouting “I'm going to smash his head in”.

The court heard he punched the man several times and, in the process, also hit the woman.

Dean also sent offensive and threatening text messages to the man, calling him a 'bitch boy' and also left a threatening voice mail message.

He was arrested and told police he had only split up from his former partner two days before.

Dean also said he'd been affected mentally, but he had lost his temper when he saw a picture of them on Snapchat cuddling up together, so he went to her home and found them asleep on the sofa.

He told police he had not intended to hurt her but she had got between them when he was trying to hit the man and he apologised to him.

Mitigating, Matthew Tye said Dean was hoping to reconcile with the woman, who he described as 'the love of his life'.

Mr Tye said Dean, who had lost his job in the past two weeks, didn't intend her any harm and had hit her by mistake when she got between them.

Dean was given a 12 month community order with 35 rehabilitation days and ordered to observe an electronically monitored curfew between the hours of 8pm and 3am.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to the man.
