Lorry fire on A16 at Crowland causes severe delays to traffic
A lorry fire has led to severe traffic delays on a main road.
Numerous reports say that the lorry has caught fire at the Crowland roundabout on the A16.
Pictures show flames and smoke emitting from the vehicle, and traffic is currently congested all the way from the Newborough roundabout to the B1040.
One Facebook user reported hearing explosions at the scene, while unconfirmed reports suggest the driver is safe.
AA Traffic says drivers are currently experiencing 12 minute delays, and that these are increasing on the A16 Northbound between B1443 Thorney Road and Peterborough Road South.
Average speeds remain at 5mph.
A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: "A section of the road is being closed due to a lorry fire. This is incident 257 of today (May 12), reported at 16.32pm and relates to the A16 Crowland Bypass.
"The road will be closed whilst the fire is dealt with and any damage to the road is assessed."
Crowland, Spalding and Stanground and Dogsthorpe crews are currently in attendance at the scene.
They are using breathing apparatus and hose reels jets, with fire fighting foam also in use.
