People in South Holland planning to eat out at Christmas are being urged to “look before you book” with a restaurant.
The warning comes from South Holland District Council and the Food Standards Agency in a joint effort to raise catering standards and prevent food poisoning.
Both organisations are promoting the food hygiene rating system as a guide for people to judge the standards of cleanliness, production and preparation at restaurants and other food businesses.
Coun Malcolm Chandler, district council portfolio holder for environmental health, said: “Our Food, Health & Safety Team works hard by continually monitoring standards across the district and offering advice and guidance on good hygiene practices.
“A good food hygiene rating is something to be proud of and it matters to customers, so we are encouraging all businesses in the district to display their rating and have a prosperous Christmas season.”
