A new wave of strike action by firefighters is set to hit South Holland and other parts of Lincolnshire this weekend.
About 400 members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) in Lincolnshire, including some in Spalding, are to walk out from 6pm on Friday until 6pm next Tuesday as a row with the government over pension rights and the retirement age of firefighters continues.
Lincolnshire FBU chairman Chris Hides said: “We’ve been in discussions with the Government but it seems very reluctant to put an offer on the table to improve the pension proposal it offered three years ago.
“Unfortunately with no proposal on the table, we’ve had to take action again.”
In a letter to firefighters, Fire Minister Penny Mordaunt MP said: “It is regrettable that the FBU leadership has announced further strike action.
“Such actions are both unnecessary and unhelpful in achieving their objectives”
