Police are appealing for witnesses after a Royal Mail post box was stolen in Long Sutton last night (Tuesday).

Long Sutton district councillor Jack Tyrrell says Spring Gardens residents believe the Victorian post box was pulled out of its supporting brickwork after 11pm.

He said: "I think whoever did this nicked it for the value of the post box itself."

But he believes the post box was damaged as the brickwork supporting it was pushed over.

The only sign at the scene was a pile of rubble.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: "A post box located between Spring Gardens and Station Road, Long Sutton, was stolen overnight on June 12/13.

"Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident 40 of 13 June".
