LETTER: prosecute untidy Spalding smokers

I have lived in south Lincolnshire all my life to present, and I must agree with all the previous comments regarding untidiness.

Last Tuesday morning I travelled into town for my wife to visit a building society, parking at the rear of the South Holland Centre.

I noticed several pieces of litter, including crisp packets and used wet wipes, on the grass verge between the road and the footpath. I exited my car to retrieve the rubbish as I saw a litter bin just a few yards away.

Lo and behold the sight that I witnessed under the park bench near our wonderful water taxi. I just could not believe smokers could be so untidy, with a litter bin in touching distance as the photograph shows. A Public Spaces Protection Order is in force, or is it?

I have never seen any person being prosecuted. Come on council officials, you could make a killing as you do with parking attendants... £100 a time. The order has been introduced to improve the quality of life of those living, working and visiting our lovely town.
